Geographical features:

Rivers


  • The Yangtze River is the longest river in China and the third longest in the world.
    It has a total length of 6,300 kilometer. It is an arterial waterway connection such important cities as Shanghai, Nanjing, Wuhan, and Chongqing.
  • The yellow River (Huang He) is the second longest river in China.
It has a total length of 5,464 kilometers. On its banks lie Lanzhou, Baotou, Zhengzhou, Jinan and other important cities.

Mountains

  • Greater Hinggan ranges extends roughly 1,200 km from north to south, narrowing towards the south.
It divides the plains of northeastern China to the east from the Mongolian Plateau to the west.

Plateau

  • Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is bound to the south by the 2500km long Himalaya, to the west by Karakoram, to the north by Kunlun and the Altyn Tagh ranges.
